National Grilled Cheese Day!
Apr 12th, 2013 | By Wendy | Category: Family Time, Featured Articles, Reviews & ResourcesWhen I heard that today is National Grilled Cheese Day, I had to check it out. A day for grilled cheese seemed too good to be true. But when you think about it, grilled cheese is one of the most popular comfort foods and certainly that makes it worthy of its own special day. The modern day version of the grilled cheese sandwich became popular in this country during the 1920s. Since bread and cheese were two food items that had widespread availability, it probably had very little to do with wanting a comfort food and most likely was born out of necessity. Making grilled cheese in the 1920s took a tad longer than it does today; even though sliced bread was easily able to be purchased, Kraft didn’t introduce sliced cheese until the 1950s! Imagine having to slice your own cheese! One great thing about National Grilled Cheese Day is – it takes the guesswork out of what to have for dinner tonight. Pair up your grilled cheese with soup for a double dose of comfort food. Considering the weather conditions that a lot of people have had to endure this week, a comfort food dinner is the perfect choice. Since it’s Friday, continue the comfort theme after dinner; curl up for a family movie night or story time or tell cheesy jokes.
