St. Patrick’s Day 2013
Mar 14th, 2013 | By Wendy | Category: Craft Time, Family Time, Featured Articles, Reviews & ResourcesYou don’t have to be Irish to take part in some St. Patrick’s Day fun this weekend. Kids love to mix things up and to have surprises. On Sunday, surprise your kids by adding green food coloring to their breakfast milk. A quick way to give your house a festive look is to hang green streamers. You can also cut out shamrocks and hang them up as well. Another quick food coloring trick is to add it to frosting. The colored frosting instantly turns a regular cupcake into a holiday cupcake. Kids don’t need things that are fancy, expensive or time consuming to make fun memories; they just want to spend time with you. So let your kids go crazy with hanging streamers, make some cupcakes and hangout and read some stories and you just might hear your kids say… thanks for the fun day, mom!
Ten Lucky Leprechauns
From the authors who gave us Ten Grouchy Groundhogs is the brand new St. Patrick’s Day book Ten Lucky Leprechauns. This is a book that preschoolers will love. The bright illustrations of the adorable leprechauns in an outdoor setting will hold their attention. They will enjoy the simple rhyming text and silly words. It’s a counting book in disguise so you will be able to sneak in a number lesson and build their counting and reading skills all at the same time. Reading this book aloud gives the reader a chance to get into character when reading and an opportunity to practice your Irish accent.
There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Clover!
The ‘Old Lady’ has returned in time for St. Patrick’s Day. A lot of adults don’t get these books and think that they border on being gross. Kids, on the other hand, love the craziness and love the anticipation of finding out what will be the next thing to come out of her mouth. When you find yourself reading it to your kids for the 10th time in a row, just keep telling yourself that hearing the repetitive text is building their reading skills.
