Stop Bullying!
Jan 20th, 2012 | By Wendy | Category: Reviews & ResourcesWe can all do our part to help stop bullying. http://www.stopbullying.gov/ It’s never too early to teach our children to respect each other and our differences. It quite frankly should begin in our own homes; respecting parents is a must. It is also equally important for siblings to respect each other and their different opinions and preferences. Don’t be surprised if your child shows an interest in something that you can’t stand-even though they are your child, they are also their own person right from the start.
Bullying is not a single dimension topic that can always be wrapped up with a few simple words and a positive outcome as it is described in so many books. However, reading books about bullying is a great way to start the conversation with your child. You may find that after reading a story that deals with bullying, that your child may start to tell you about situations in school that they may have otherwise kept to themselves. As parents we need to start the discussion before a bullying situation arises, we can talk about different solutions and which one we think would work best in different circumstances.
One by Kathryn Otoshi, a simple book about colors and numbers weaves in the lesson of what happens when a bully is allowed to reign free. It also demonstrates the transformation that takes place when one by one the colors declare that they will be bullied no more.
